We are excited to welcome our Starbuck families to our upcoming Student-Led Conferences on Wednesday, April 1 from 4:30–8:00 PM in all Homeroom and Core Plus/Specialists' classrooms (last conference begins at 7:40 PM).
At Starbuck, student-led conferences are more than a best practice—they are an important part of our International Baccalaureate (IB) program. This experience allows students to take ownership of their learning by reflecting on their progress, sharing work from their IB portfolios, and identifying strengths and areas for growth.
What makes this special?
Students will lead the conference, guiding families through their learning journey while developing confidence, communication, and reflection skills.
Important Reminders:
Students have school on April 1 and are dismissed at the regular time
Students may not stay after school due to no supervision before conferences
Conferences are walk-in style (open house format)
There is no school for students on Thursday, April 2, as this day is reserved for pre-scheduled, private (1:1) conferences. If you would like to request one, please contact your child’s teacher.
We strongly encourage all families to attend this important learning experience. We look forward to seeing you and celebrating your child’s growth!

After reading A Long Walk to Water, Ms. Miller’s 4th grade class was inspired by Salva Dut’s story and is now raising money to support clean water efforts in South Sudan through the Iron Giraffe Challenge.
This global initiative, led by Water for South Sudan, brings schools together to fund wells that provide safe drinking water to communities in need. Access to clean water improves health, allows children to attend school, and strengthens entire communities.
This is IB in action. Our students are demonstrating:
🌍 International mindedness by learning about global challenges
🧠 Inquiry and understanding through literature and discussion
❤️ Taking action to make a meaningful difference in the world
We are so proud of our Phoenix learners for turning compassion into impact.
If you would like to support their efforts, you can donate here: https://secure.givelively.org/teams/water-for-south-sudan-inc/iron-giraffe-challenge-2026/starbuck-phoenix-s

Student-Led Conferences Invitation
Families and members of our school community are invited to attend our upcoming Student-Led Conferences. This is a powerful, student-centered opportunity for students to share their learning with you.
During the conference, students will guide the conversation by showcasing their learning journey, growth, and portfolios. They will reflect on their progress, discuss goals, and demonstrate the skills they have developed throughout the year.
Student-Led Conferences foster student agency, responsibility, and communication, as students take the lead as facilitators of their own learning story.
We look forward to welcoming you and celebrating the hard work and growth of our students together.
