Over the last few weeks, students in Ms. Weisbrod’s science classes have been learning all about cells. This module culminated with an exciting “cell scavenger hunt” around the school building!

Students searched for locations in the building that function similarly to different parts of a cell. At each stop, they answered questions and worked together to solve clues that helped them determine a final code to complete their assignment.

Learning experiences like this help students make real-world connections and bring classroom concepts to life. We are so grateful for teachers like Ms. Weisbrod who create engaging opportunities for our students to learn in new and creative ways!

Last Friday our 3rd–5th grade students had the opportunity to participate in our annual Black History Bee! Over the past several weeks, students spent time learning about influential African American leaders, important time periods in our nation’s history, and their lasting impact.

During the Bee, students competed by answering questions one at a time until we crowned our first-place winner. We are incredibly proud of all of our participants for their hard work and dedication!

Congratulations to everyone who participated, and a special shout-out to our winner, Sahni! Keep showing us your academic excellence, Jaguars!

Tuesday morning, JA was excited to host our 2nd All Pro Dad’s Breakfast of the school year! Attendees enjoyed delicious breakfast sandwiches provided by the Culinary students from J.I. Case High School. Our host, Ron Willis, shared a powerful message about the importance of father figures showing up for our students and inspiring joy so they stay excited about learning and education.

We are grateful for the strong support from our JA families and community and are already looking forward to our next All Pro Dad’s Breakfast! #JAALLDAY 🖤💛

So proud of our Jerstad 5th graders for stepping into leadership this week! 💛 They partnered with our kindergarten friends to read and create a Valentine craft, modeling fluency, patience, and kindness. Watching our 5th grade students guide, encourage, and celebrate our younger learners was such a powerful reminder that leadership starts with heart.

Way to be role models, 5th graders! 📖

This week, our amazing community partners at the Racine Police Department and Educators Credit Union celebrated Love Week across RUSD! Love Week shines a spotlight on individuals who consistently show love, care, and dedication to their school and the greater Racine community.
We were incredibly proud and excited to recognize Ms. Ann during this year’s Love Week! If you’ve stepped foot in Jerstad over the past few years, chances are you’ve been greeted by one of Ms. Ann’s huge smiles, warm hugs, or her enthusiastic “Good Morning!”
We are so grateful to experience the joy, kindness, and positivity Ms. Ann brings to our school community, our staff, and our students each and every day. This Sunshine Award was truly well-deserved!
Thank you to the Racine Police Department and Educators Credit Union for helping us celebrate such an amazing and deserving staff member. #JAAllDay 🖤💛

Today is Internet Safety Day. Child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA) is a horrific crime that targets some of the most vulnerable people in our communities — children and teens. Resources for education, prevention and intervention of CSEA can be found at https://www.dhs.gov/know2protect

If you know of an incident, you can report it at the bottom of any Know2Protect webpage, by calling 988 for crisis support or 911 for an emergency.

The attached list provides ten steps you can take to prevent CSEA and create a safe digital experience for your child.

Last week, some of our 7th grade female students had the opportunity to join a Zoom call with author and motivational speaker Tia Banks, author of Mind Over Mountains. During this inspiring conversation, students were encouraged to believe in themselves and learn strategies to overcome obstacles they may face in their lives. We are grateful for this empowering experience and the positive impact it had on our students!

Our 8th grade Capstone students have been busy making a difference! 💛
As part of their capstone projects, students partnered with community organizations to give back through meaningful volunteer work. Students worked alongside Veterans Outreach of Racine and Mr. Benzow’s construction classes to build 16 bed frames for local veterans. They also partnered with the WisCARES/Wolfgang Animal Shelter to create 10 fleece blankets for animals in their care.

A huge thank you to Mr. Cedillo for guiding our students and showing them the powerful impact they can have when they volunteer their time to help others. We are so proud of their hard work and community spirit!

School Pride Moment at Jerstad! 🖤💛

Yesterday, our 8th grade Capstone class hosted an exciting event for the entire 8th grade at Jerstad in honor of the community organization Black Mothers United, which works to reduce teen gun violence in our Racine community.

Students enjoyed friendly competition through 3v3 basketball games and a half-court shot challenge, and the event kicked off in style with a high-energy welcome from our drum line and cheer team. 🎶📣

We were honored to have Officer Hood from the Racine Police Department and a representative from Black Mothers United speak with our students before the games began, sharing powerful messages about community, safety, and unity. Winners of the competitions even went home with gift cards! 🏀🎉

Thank you to Mr. Cedillo and his Capstone students for organizing such a fun and meaningful event supporting an important cause. A great time was truly had by all!
