2026-27 calendar

The 2026-27 RUSD school calendar is now available and it looks a little different than previous years. Beginning next fall, schools will release one hour early most Wednesdays to provide our educators time each week to meet in professional learning communities to review student data, work and plan together. Research shows that this kind of teacher collaboration improves student achievement.

In preparation for this transition, please review the following important information:

School Start & End Times

These have been updated on the RUSD website. Adjustments were made to add 6 minutes to each school day to make up for the lost instructional time on early-release Wednesdays.

Busing

Bus schedules will be adjusted to align with early release Wednesdays. Students who ride the bus can continue to ride the bus home as normal on these days.

Extended Learning Options

Registration will open on Monday, August 3, at 8 a.m.

  • Option 1: K-5 Extended Learning M-TH (after-school care)

    • Parents choose from site-specific designated pickup times

    • Sites will have enrollment caps for M-TH

  • Option 2: K-5 Wednesday Only (after-school care)

    • Will begin an hour early on early release Wednesdays

    • Parents will determine their pick-up time as long as it’s no later than Extended Learning dismissal

    • No enrollment cap

    • Educational assistants will be assigned to supervise groups of students

    • Activities

  • K-5 will have options to select from each Wednesday: open gym, art, board games or homework help.

Middle School After-School Activities

After-school activities will begin at the same time Monday-Thursday. On early release Wednesdays, students who participate in middle school sports or clubs/activities after school will have the opportunity to participate in a supervised study hall for one hour. This will be valuable time for students to catch up on homework and collaborate with their peers on project work.

If you have any other questions about after-school programming at your child’s school, please contact your school’s main office.
