Meagan DeGroot

Not only is March Women's History Month, we also have whole week to celebrate Women in construction.

A Racine native, Meagan DeGroot, is celebrating National Women in Construction Week by inspiring young students to consider careers in construction. As a project manager for Hunzinger Construction, she visited students at Goodland Montessori, where her company is working on renovations. During her visit, she read books, answered questions, and explained what her job involves.

DeGroot hopes to encourage more girls to join the construction industry, where women currently make up only about 11% of workers. She says her goal is to show students, especially girls, that construction is a career option for them. Her motivation has grown even stronger since becoming a mother, and she wants the next generation to know they can succeed in the field.
