In an extremely challenging budget year, Racine Unified Superintendent Dr. Eric Gallien is pleased to present to the community a balanced budget that includes a five percent decrease in the tax rate, from $10.00 to $9.49.

“We began the year making really tough decisions to address a significant budget deficit,” said Gallien. “I’m happy to be able to present the community with a fiscally responsible budget that reduces the tax rate and also provides excellent educational opportunities for our students and collaborative projects that benefit the entire Racine community.”

The FY20 RUSD budget includes:

  • Implementation of additional Academies of Racine high school Pathway courses that prepare students for success in college and the workplace. This year, the first Academies students will graduate having been part of this new model since their freshman year;
  • A technology refresh that provided students with 14,000 new Chromebooks and window computers;
  • Expansion of successful programs for our youngest learners including full-day four-year-old kindergarten, Montessori and opening of the Bull Early Education Center;
  • Security enhancements at schools across the District including new security cameras (through the safety grant) and new secure entryways; and
  • Two exciting community projects – the athletics facilities at Pritchard Park and the proposed RUSD Aquatic Center.

“This budget benefits our students, our families and the entire community,” said Gallien. “I’m most excited about the collaborative efforts we are implementing with partnerships grounded in the belief that collectively we can and will move Racine forward.”
