Walden III Students Raise More Than $15,000 for Community Organizations

Nine Racine County organizations are hundreds of dollars richer thanks to students at Walden III Middle and High School.

Throughout the school year, Student Government students organized fundraisers including a penny war and food drive to raise money and donations for community organizations. This year, students raised a total of $15,050.

On Friday, May 22, students got the chance to celebrate their accomplishments and present the earnings of the penny war to their recipients during an event called Springing Walden. The Student Government puts on the event every year. It featured activities like a bounce house, a tie-dye t-shirt table and obstacle course, just to name a few.

The majority of they money raised, $7,600, was donated to the Racine County Food Bank in November, along with 330 boxes which equaled about 5,671 lbs of food!

“It’s unbelievable to see all this success,” Walden III Principal Rob Kreil said. “These kids amaze me. They work really hard, and it’s nice to be able to give them half a day to say thanks for making a difference.”

The rest of the money went to different community organizations including Relay for Life, the Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, and Wounded Warrior Project, among others.
