RUSD Summer Food Service Program Announced


Stressing the importance of offering nutritious meals to children during the summer months, Racine Unified School District announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program.

The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, provides nutritious meals to children during the summer, when free and reduced-price school meals are typically unavailable.  Free meals will be made available to children 18 years of age and under.  Persons over 18 years of age who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled and who also participate in a public or private non-profit school program during the regular school year may receive free meals as well.

The following Racine Unified schools will be serving free meals this summer:

  • Fratt Elementary
  • Giese Elementary
  • Johnson Elementary
  • Mitchell Elementary
  • North Park Elementary
  • Roosevelt Elementary
  • Wadewitz Elementary
  • West Ridge Elementary
  • Gilmore Middle
  • Mitchell Middle
  • Starbuck Middle
  • Horlick High
  • Park High

Breakfast and lunch will be served Monday through Thursday from June 22nd to July 30th.  Meals will not be available on Fridays. Breakfast will be served at all sites from 8-8:30 a.m. and lunch will be served from 10:45-11:15 a.m. at the elementary and middle schools and 11:30 a.m.-12 p.m. at the high schools.

Community Centers throughout Racine will also be participating in the SFSP this summer. Lunch will be available on the same dates listed above at the following sites: 

  • Bray Center, 924 Center Street from 12-2 p.m. 
  • Bryant Center, 601 21st Street from 12-2 p.m.
  • Martin Luther King Center, 1134 MLK Dr. from 12-2 p.m. 
  • New Beginnings of Faith Church, 2711-19th Street from July 20-July 30 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. 
  • Salvation Army, 1901 E. Washington Ave. from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
  • Tyler-Domer Center, 2301 12th Street from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
  • Urban League, 718 N Memorial Dr. from 11:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
  • We Are Racine @ 16th St COP House, 1900-16th Street on Tuesday-Thursday from 12 – 2 p.m.
