RUSD Honors 131 Staff Members with Encore! Awards


On May 4, 2017, during the fourth annual Encore! Awards in Education event, 131 RUSD educators were recognized for their success in improving achievement for RUSD students.

This year, 131 elementary, middle and high school teachers, educational assistants, clerical staff, engineers, paraprofessionals and principals were honored in three categories. 

Principal’s Choice Award: Award recipients are RUSD staff members who consistently contribute to making their school a better place, put in extra effort and demonstrate high expectations for all students.

Encore! Award: Award recipients are teachers who have shown evidence of fostering excellent academic achievement, living our RUSD core values and/or implementing an innovative program in their school.

Beacon Award: An honor awarded by the superintendent amd senior leadership to shine a light on an individual who has a positive impact on the students, staff and/or organization.

On Friday, the District also recognized Badger Meter as the Business Partner of the Year and Mary Catherine Cashion, a former RUSD teacher and strong advocate for the District, with the Friend of Education Award.

Under the leadership of Chairman, President and CEO Rich Meeusen, Badger Meter is a devoted community partner and champion for the Academies of Racine and RUSD schools. Badger Meter leadership and staff have been instrumental in supporting RUSD in launching the Academies of Racine and developing hands-on, real world learning experiences for students.

Mary Catherine Cashion has dedicated her life to the Racine Unified School District and its students. Mary Catherine taught for 44 years at all grade levels, retiring in 1997. At RUSD, she worked first as a full-time English as a Second Language teacher and then as the District ESL coordinator. As a teacher, Cashion was an educational pioneer. She was among the first to use computers in the classroom.
