Racine Unified’s Halli Stewart Earns 2015 Pat Tillman Foundation Scholarship

Racine Unified School District’s Halli Stewart has been chosen as a 2015 Tillman Scholar. Stewart is currently an Instructional Methods Coordinator for RUSD and will continue her work on a broader scale as she strives to earn her doctorate in Urban Education from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.

Founded in 2004, the Pat Tillman Foundation invests in military veterans and their spouses through educational scholarships – building a diverse community of leaders committed to service to others.

At the age of 10, Stewart became mesmerized by everything about the Army after visiting her sister and brother-in-law stationed in California. Stewart joined the Army reserves at 17 and then quickly enlisted in active duty where she spent five years as a combat medic.

During her service, Stewart experienced a traumatic event which taught her to persevere and ignited a passion to fight for equality and justice.

This year, there were 2,100 applicants and only sixty U.S. service members, veterans and military spouses were named 2015 Tillman Scholars. In recognition of their service, leadership and academic excellence, this new class will receive more than $1.7 million in scholarships to pursue their higher education and continue their service.

Stewart will receive $10,000 for her first year and an additional $10,000 every year she renews her scholarship.
