RUSD Smart Start 2020

(en Espanol)

First and foremost, thank you for your patience, support and input these past several weeks. Our Re-Entry Planning Team made up of more than 150 District administrators, teachers, community members and parents, have been planning for a safe return to school since May. The team has worked tirelessly to put together a plan that meets the academic and social/emotional needs of our students while keeping everyone safe. We’ve gathered feedback from thousands of parents and guardians, staff and community members through surveys and a virtual listening session and worked closely with our local and state health departments to make informed and data-driven decisions as we’ve developed our plan for returning to school this fall.

As Racine continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases, RUSD will begin the 2020-2021 school year (first-quarter; Sept. 1-Nov. 6) with 100% remote learning. Students will begin remote learning on September 1. You can view RUSD’s Smart Start 2020 plan here. We will share plans for second-quarter no later than Oct. 19.

Please know that we want nothing more than to bring our students back to school face-to-face and commit to doing so when we know it is a safe decision.

Remote learning this spring was delivered in response to a national crisis. Our team has thoughtfully planned for a much more robust student learning structure this fall than what your child experienced last spring and we are working on plans for providing support to families assisting their children with remote learning at home.

Remote Learning

  • Students will be taught in a remote format by their school teacher(s) following a defined schedule.
  • Details about instruction will be provided to parents in the coming weeks.
  • Although still closed to the public, teachers and school staff will report to work and teach from their classrooms (except in extenuating circumstances).

We will continue to plan and prepare as thoughtfully and diligently as we can, responding to the latest information, collaborating with our local health departments and continuing to be flexible and fluid in order to provide our students with the best possible learning experience.

In the meantime, I encourage you to view our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) here.

I want to thank you for your compassion, understanding and partnership. We will continue to provide updates and information as often as possible.
