Schools of Hope 2018-19 Tutors Needed

08/01/2018

We are officially accepting Schools of Hope volunteer tutor applications for the 2018-19 school year. All applicants must pass a background check and attend training. Volunteers have the flexibility to attend a training in Racine or in Burlington. The application deadline is Monday, September 10.  We need your assistance in spreading this great volunteer opportunity far and wide within your personal and professional networks.

Here’s how you can help!

  • Facebook posts (please like and share as they’re posted on the UWRC page). www.facebook.com/UWRacine
  • Share our Schools of Hope general page (www.unitedwayracine.org/soh)

Important points

  • Time commitment is one hour per week, during the school day, October-May.
  • This year’s participating elementary schools are:
    • Burlington Area School District
      • Waller
    • Racine Unified School District
      • Giese
      • Julian Thomas
      • Knapp
      • North Park
      • Olympia Brown
      • Wadewitz
  •  No previous experience is needed.
  • Volunteers work with the same two students all year, so they have the opportunity to build relationships and rapport.
  • Busy volunteers can form a tutor team and share the responsibility of a tutoring assignment with a friend or colleague.
  • Substitute tutors are needed to fill in for volunteers experiencing an extended illness or vacation.

If you are a returning tutor but you’re not planning to tutor during the 2018-19 school year, please fill out a tutor intent form here.
