RUSD Smart Start 2020

07/24/2020

(en Espanol)

As Racine continues to see an increase in COVID-19 cases, RUSD will begin the 2020-2021 school year (first-quarter; Sept. 1-Nov. 6) with 100% remote learning. Students will begin remote learning on September 1. You can view RUSD’s Smart Start 2020 plan here. We will share plans for second-quarter no later than Oct. 19.

Please know that we want nothing more than to bring our students back to school face-to-face and commit to doing so when we know it is a safe decision.

Remote learning this spring was delivered in response to a national crisis. Our team has thoughtfully planned for a much more robust student learning structure this fall than what your child experienced last spring and we are working on plans for providing support to families assisting their children with remote learning at home.

Remote Learning

  • Students will be taught in a remote format by their school teacher(s) following a defined schedule.
  • Details about instruction will be provided to parents in the coming weeks.
  • Although still closed to the public, teachers and school staff will report to work and teach from their classrooms (except in extenuating circumstances).

Technology and Materials Pick-Up

Technology and learning materials pick-up for Grades 4K-12 will take place Aug. 18, 19 & 20. Families can pick up technology and other learning materials at their child's school during designated time slots on these days. Students in grades 4K-2 will receive paper learning packets while we wait for technology to arrive (latest mid-September). Once technology arrives, we will schedule days and times for families to pick up these devices. To support families while we are waiting for the K-2 technology to arrive, K-2 teachers will be responsible for recording themselves teaching the lessons from each packet and uploading the videos to YouTube for families to access if they choose. Families can access these videos on any smart device such as a smartphone, iPad or laptop.

Please see the full pick-up schedule here. For more information or to schedule an appointment, please contact your child's school.
