Julian Thomas Opens as Community Elementary School

On Thursday, Aug. 29, Julian Thomas Community Elementary School officially opened its doors as a community school!

In partnership with United Way of Racine County, Julian Thomas is the second community school in RUSD. A community school focuses on academics, health and social services, youth and community development and community engagement and works to bring together many partners to offer a range of supports to children, their families and the community.

On Thursday, Principal Anisa Diaz shared her excitement, “we want our families to be engaged in their child’s learning. Engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities.”

Superintendent Dr. Eric Gallien and Board of Education President Brian O’Connell and Board members Julie McKenna, John Heckenlively and Mike Frontier helped celebrate the ribbon cutting.

“Racine’s second community school will continue to provide services and supports to address the needs of our families and students to prepare them for academic success now and in the future,” Dr. Eric Gallien said.
