Early Learning Programs
Racine Unified offers a variety of programs and services for early learners, including:
4-year-old kindergarten (4K) is a free program offered to children who live within RUSD's boundaries. It is a developmentally appropriate program, offering hands-on instruction to students who are 4 by or before September 1st of the academic year. Half day and full day options are offered through out the district.
P-COC (Parent-Child Oriented Classroom)
The P-COC (Parent-Child Oriented Classroom) Program for three-year-olds is a free program offered to children who are 3 by or before September 1st of the academic year and who living within RUSD's boundaries. The P-COC program offers a unique opportunity for families to work with their children in the classroom on the weekly, mandatory parent participation day. P-COC is located at the Bull Early Education Center and the RUSD Montessori building.
RUSD introduced a new Montessori Program in 2016. Montessori education emphasizes independence and respect for a child’s naturally developing cognitive, physical and social skills. It is a free program for students who live within RUSD's boundaries. Enrollment is lottery based. Children are enrolled in mixed age classrooms. Wrap around care is available. The program is located at the Goodland Elementary School building.
Racine Unified offers free developmental screenings for any child between the ages of birth to five who is not attending kindergarten.
