Students at Walden III have the opportunity to engage in the production of a school yearbook, which catalogs all the events of the present school year. In the beginning of the year students plan the overall layout of the yearbook and assign jobs for significant events planned at Walden like the food drive, Make-a-Difference-Day and Prom. Initially students focus on gathering and analyzing information, interviewing, note taking, and photography. Attention is given to performance standards for yearbook creation and deadlines daily.
Students learn about merchandising, promotions and sales as they focus on the business manager aspect of the yearbook. The Editors learn about layout, content and design of pages, and the over all book. Everyone is involved in the production assembly and distribution of the yearbook.
Here the yearbook is the end result. It’s a marketing course. It’s a publishing course. It’s a business and finance course. The end result is tangible.
