4-year-old kindergarten (4K) is a full day, developmentally appropriate educational program of learning and activities for 4-year-old children. 4K is free for children who live within the District's boundaries. Students attend classes Monday through Thursday and some Fridays.
There are many reasons to consider enrolling your child in 4K:
- Studies indicate that students in early childhood programs learn the skills necessary for success in elementary school and beyond.
- Social and emotional school readiness is a precursor to learning. 4K assists children with language skills, listening skills, muscle coordination, social skills and other prerequisites to learning.
- Racine Unified has a strong history of providing excellent programming for young children.
If your child will be four on or before Sept. 1, you can register him/her for 4K.
Registration for the following school year typically begins on the first Wednesday in March. Please register your child at Knapp Elementary, if that is the school you want them to attend. You will need to bring your child's birth certificate or baptismal record, proof of address and an immunization record to enroll. Space for 4K is limited, so parents are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
