Janes Elementary School is a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school. This is a system of behavior management through reinforcers and by tracking student behavior data and using that data to reteach appropriate behaviors at different levels. The three expectations of Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Safe come with rules that apply at different settings such as in the classroom, the cafeteria, the playground, the bathroom, the hallway, etc. The students can earn Jayhawk Dollars for following the rules and doing things the "Jayhawk Way."
Each classroom teacher at Janes Elementary will be teaching Second Step in their classroom. Second Step is a classroom based social skills program for children 4 to 14 years of age that teaches socioemotional skills aimed at reducing impulsive and aggressive behavior while increasing social competence.
