Board Approves Budget; School Tax Rate to Decrease

10/29/2014

On Oct. 28, the RUSD Board of Education approved two versions of the final annual budget. One of the budgets assumes that the Nov. 4 RUSD referendum will be approved. The alternate budget would be used if the referendum were not to pass.

The budget, and each area in the budget, are aligned to the District's three-year Raising Racine plan, which has three priorities:

  1. Raising Student Achievement
  2. Closing Gaps
  3. Creating Positive Learning Environments in All Schools

Because the District will receive additional state aid this year, the school property tax rate will decrease with or without the referendum.

The final budget includes a school tax rate decrease. If the referendum is approved by voters on Nov. 4, the school tax rate will decrease from $9.96 to $9.59 (a decrease of 3.7%) and the tax levy will decrease by 2.08%. If the referendum is not approved, the school tax rate will decrease from $9.96 to $9.51 (a decrease of 4.5%) and the tax levy will decrease by 2.9%.
