Julian Thomas Elementary Receives Meaningful Donation

10/11/2017

Allie, Jordan and Haley Haddad wanted to give back. They grew up in a great community and had excellent educational opportunities. They wanted the same for other students. So they began a non-profit called On a Shoestring, raising money to provide school supplies to students and schools in need. This month, Julian Thomas Elementary School became On a Shoestring’s first donation recipient!

The Haddad teens delivered a truck-full of school supplies to Julian Thomas surprising Principal Demetri Beekman who was Jordan and Haley’s fifth grade teacher before coming to the Racine Unified School District.

He was one of their most beloved teachers. In fact, based on their memories, he was a favorite of many students at the school. And they remembered Mr. Beekman. So, when they started their non-profit, the Haddad’s tracked him down in RUSD and decided to donate to his school.

This week, Allie, Jordan and Haley joined Principal Beekman in hand-delivering many of the school supplies to individual classrooms. Smiles of appreciation were infectious as teachers and students thanked them in each room they visited.

It doesn’t end here. The Haddad family plans to be back later this month with Halloween candy and they’re continuing to raise money for the next school on their list.
